What is Nioxin?

Nioxin is a product that is commonly sold through hair saloons. It claims to improve the environment on the scalp for regrowth and maintaining hair.

The manufacturer has not disclosed clinical research studies on its claims. There are no known published scientific evidence that any of the ingredients in Nioxin are effective in treating hair loss or maintaining hair count, or that excess sebum leads to hair thinning. Hence, it is not approved by the regulatory bodies as a medicinal product to treat hair growth.

There is an article run by the Pharma Intelligence online magazine in 2002 which stated that National Advertising Division of the Council of Better Business Bureaus advised Nioxin Research Labs should drop statements that its hair care products “help reduce excessive daily hair loss” as it was not supported by research evidence.

In 2009, Procter and Gamble bought Nioxin Research labs to add their products to their portfolio of shampoos.
