Keratin microsphere gel study in mice is found to be promising in hair growth.
A study published in Applied Bio Materials 2024, conducted by the University of Tsukuba found that the topical administration of a gel made of water soluble oxidised keratin gel on mice significantly enhanced cell proliferation and the expression of genes associated with hair growth in the papilla cells of the hair follicles, thereby stimulating hair development.
This gel was applied on to the back of shaved mice and hair growth was monitored. In addition, skin analysis was carried out to check for any gene up-regulation. The results in the lab were promising for further research on keratin.
